Ranking Member Subramanyam Statement on DOD Proposal to Cut Ties with Scouting America

November 25, 2025

LEESBURG, VA – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), Ranking Member of the Military and Foreign Affairs Oversight Subcommittee, released the following statement after a leaked proposal from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth suggested dissolving a century-old partnership between Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts) and the Department of Defense:

“If Secretary Hegseth was truly concerned about America’s young men, he wouldn’t be cutting this partnership. For generations, Eagle Scouts join the military ready to serve in leadership positions because of the character, training, and service learned in the Scouts. This decision doesn’t help our recruiting crisis; it hurts Scouts and parents across the country and cuts off an entire pipeline of motivated young folks, all because the Secretary wants to score political points. I’m calling on the Department of Defense to reverse course immediately.”

Rep. Subramanyam Demands Answers from FBI About Potential Tampering of Epstein Files

November 21, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), member of the House Oversight Committee, has sent a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel demanding answers about the security and integrity of the Epstein files. This week Director Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi held a press conference where they refused to answer multiple questions about a timeline for releasing the files, what information will be released, and how re-opening the investigation will affect what files are released.

In the letter the Congressman said, “The American people understandably have concerns about the President using his political influence over the files’ release and either tampering, destroying, or selectively releasing and withholding files, particularly in light of the Department of Justice’s announcement to start investigating Democrats who were associated with Epstein.”

In the last few days, there have been several concerning anecdotal reports of tampering with the files. The Congressman also requested a visit to the FBI’s Winchester, VA facility in his region and any other facilities to review the security and integrity of the files.

You can read the full letter here and below:

Dear Director Patel,

As you know, Congress voted to release all the files the Department of Justice has on Jeffrey Epstein to the public. While the President could have released the files to the public months ago, this week’s landmark vote is a step forward towards achieving justice for the survivors and the American people. For years, the rich and powerful have not been held accountable for their association with Jeffrey Epstein and potential involvement in his criminal enterprise.

The American people understandably have concerns about the President using his political influence over the files’ release and either tampering, destroying, or selectively releasing and withholding files, particularly in light of the Department of Justice’s announcement to start investigating Democrats who were associated with Epstein.

Furthermore, there have recently been troubling anecdotes to suggest this, such as an acting deputy chief at the Department of Justice saying that all Republican names were being redacted. The brother of Jeffrey Epstein also claimed in an interview on NewsNation that “I’ve been recently told, the reason they’re going to be releasing the files and the reason for the flip is that they’re sabotaging these files.” He went on to say that Trump Administration officials are “scrubbing the files to take Republican names out,” and that some of this information may be damaging to President Trump.

These reports do nothing to inspire confidence of a complete release of all of the Epstein files, no matter the political affiliation of the people named. The victims and their families are themselves concerned about the tampering of the files and politicization of this process. They deserve full justice and accountability, and, as you said upon your own confirmation, “there will be no coverups, no missing documents, no stone left unturned.”

In this light, I request the following answers by November 26, 2025:

  1. Before the files are released, who will be redacting them? Who will be approving the redactions?
  2. In February 2025, Attorney General Pam Bondi said that the files were on her desk. Were the files physically on her desk? Where were they?
  3. Are there files relating to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation at the FBI’s Central Records facility in Winchester, VA? 1. If so, have the files been altered, tampered with, or accessed – at any point – since January 20, 2025?
  4. What steps has the FBI taken to protect the files’ storage at the facility in Winchester, or elsewhere?
  5. What security measures are currently in place at the Winchester facility, or other facilities relevant to the Epstein files?
  6. In a November 19 press conference, Attorney General Bondi said that new information led to the reversal of her decision to close the Epstein case earlier this year. What was that new information?

I also request a visit to the FBI Central Records Complex or other facilities housing relevant Epstein files to review the security and condition of these files as we continue our investigation on the House Oversight Committee.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.

Rep. Subramanyam’s Statement on House Passage of Epstein Files Bill

November 18, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) released the following statement after the House passed the bill to force the release of the Epstein files:

“I just voted YES to release the Epstein files to the public, but we didn’t need this vote. The Oversight Committee subpoenaed these files months ago, and the President could have just released them. While we already have the files released by the Epstein Estate, the FBI and DOJ are sitting on tens of thousands more.

The brave survivors, and the American people, deserve the truth. For too long, powerful and rich people have evaded accountability for their association with Jeffrey Epstein. As a member of the House Oversight Committee, I will continue to work with my colleagues to conduct a full, thorough investigation, and finally hold those who committed heinous crimes against girls accountable.”

Congressman Subramanyam Calls For Investigation to Assess and Prepare For Impacts Of An AI Bubble Burst On The Economy

November 18, 2025

Washington, D.C.Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, has sent a letter to the Chair of the Federal Reserve and the Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) pushing for an investigation into the existence of an “AI bubble” and its potential impact on the American economy.

Speculation of an “AI bubble” is emerging due to technology companies heavily invested in AI making up a large share of major public index funds. The bursting of this “AI bubble” could devastate public markets as well as the savings and retirement accounts of working families and seniors across the country. Many leaders of technology and AI companies like Sam Altman, CEO of Open AI, and Jeff Bezos, Executive Chairman and founder of Amazon, have claimed that an AI bubble does exist, furthering the need and urgency to investigate.

“AI has quickly become enmeshed in all parts of our society and economy. Major tech companies heavily invested in AI make up a large share of market value and much of the economy is now intertwined with their success,” said Congressman Suhas Subramanyam. “We have seen this many times before with companies considered ‘too big to fail.’ We need transparency into the AI bubble to better understand what’s going on and make sure we are prepared.”

Rep. Subramanyam’s Statement on Government Funding Bill

November 12, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) released the following statement after voting against the Senate Shutdown deal to reopen the federal government:

“While I am glad that the shutdown is ending, and believe it never should have happened, I voted no because this bill makes a lot of empty promises. I’ve heard promises about lowering health care costs and supporting federal workers and contractors. But promises aren’t enough. There’s nothing concrete here in this bill, not on making health care more affordable, not on protecting the federal workforce after months of chaos, firings, and uncertainty. After everything our community has been through, we deserve more than another vague promise.

I am also very concerned about a provision in this bill that will essentially provide kickbacks to a handful of Republican Senators — millions of taxpayer dollars headed straight into their pockets because they didn’t like being investigated after January 6th. That’s corruption, plain and simple.

We need real certainty on rising costs, health care, and protecting our federal workforce. This bill doesn’t deliver any of it.”

Congressman Subramanyam spoke on the House floor this afternoon about the provision to provide kickbacks to U.S. Senators. You can watch that here.

Rep. Subramanyam Proposes Amendment to Strip Payout to Republican Senators Investigated After Jan. 6th from Government Funding Bill

November 11, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), a member of the House Ethics Committee, has introduced a House Rules Committee amendment to strip a government funding bill provision that would allow eight Republican U.S. Senators to claim at least $500,000 in taxpayer money over phone record collections during Jan. 6th investigation. This provision would also limit the federal government’s ability to defend itself against such claims.

“Republicans couldn’t help but use this as another opportunity to further their own corruption. In this case, Senate Republicans are bemoaning national debt on one hand but spending millions in taxpayer money in a Republican Ransack,” said Rep. Subramanyam. “This bill has Congress spending more taxpayer dollars on kickbacks to Republican Senators than on affordability and healthcare costs. This corrupt provision needs to go, and Republicans must join us in voting it down if they are serious.”

Rep. Subramanyam will be testifying in front of the House Rules Committee around 8:20pm. You can watch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgDppRkoBOA

Rep. Subramanyam Issues Statement On President Al Sharaa's White House Visit

November 10, 2025

"The United Nations recently took steps to remove terror-related sanctions on Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. And I welcome the  results of today's meeting, including another 180 days of temporary sanctions relief. At this critical moment after over a decade of civil war, I hope President al-Sharaa's visit to Washington marks a step towards achieving a stable and secure Syria and brighter future for the Syrian people.

Last month I co-sponsored legislation to repeal the Caesar Sanctions, which were initially implemented to hold the Assad regime accountable. Lifting these sanctions will allow for investment and economic growth for Syrian families and businesses and deter terrorism. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to promote a free, democratic Syria, and permanently lift these sanctions as soon as possible."

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, Oversight Ranking Member Garcia Demand Andrew Mountbatten Windsor Answer Questions on Jeffrey Epstein

November 6, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representatives Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) and Robert Garcia (CA-42), Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, wrote to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, Duke of York, to request that he submit to questioning by the Oversight Committee as part of the ongoing probe into Jeffrey Epstein, his accomplices, and enablers.

“After hearing from Epstein’s victims and public reporting of leaked documents, it is vital that Andrew cooperates with the ongoing investigation. If he is innocent, then he can clear his name. And if not, our investigation will show that, and the victims will receive long overdue justice,” said Rep. Subramanyam. “The Royal Family’s actions stripping Andrew of his titles show there is more to this story. Ranking Member Garcia and I will not stop pushing for answers and accountability.”

“Rich and powerful men have evaded justice for far too long. Now, former Prince Andrew has the opportunity to come clean and provide justice for the survivors. Oversight Democrats will not stop fighting for accountability and transparency for survivors of Epstein and his gang of co-conspirators,” said Ranking Member Robert Garcia.

The Oversight Committee will investigate allegations of abuse by Mountbatten Windsor and will seek information on Epstein’s operations, network, and associates based on the men’s longstanding and well-documented friendship. Last month, Mountbatten Windsor announced he would give up his royal titles following accusations of his involvement with sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and abuse allegations made by Virginia Giuffre. His decision came just weeks after House Democrats released records listing Prince Andrew as passenger on Epstein’s aircraft, with financial disclosures providing possible evidence of payments from Epstein for “massages for Andrew.”

In the letter to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, led by Reps. Subramanyam and Garcia, with 14 other Democratic members, the lawmakers wrote, “It has been publicly reported that your friendship with Mr. Epstein began in 1999 and that you remained close through and after his 2008 conviction for procuring minors for prostitution. It has also been reported that you traveled with Epstein to his New York residence, the Queen’s residence at Balmoral, and to Mr. Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where you have been accused of abusing minors. This close relationship with Mr. Epstein, coupled with the recently revealed 2011 email exchange in which you wrote to him “we are in this together,” further confirms our suspicion that you may have valuable information about the crimes committed by Mr. Epstein and his co-conspirators.”

Congressman Suhas Subramanyam Introduces Legislation to Support Small Businesses During the Government Shutdown

October 31, 2025

Washington, D.C. – This week, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) introduced the Keep Main Street Open Act to establish an emergency stimulus program for small businesses that have been financially impacted by the government shutdown. The program would be run by the Small Business Administration and be available to eligible applicants immediately.

“Northern Virginia’s economy is in jeopardy. Zero-dollar paychecks for federal workers and contractors, the suspension of vital programs like SNAP, and the administration’s backwards economic policies have significantly reduced spending in our community. Small businesses across Northern Virginia are losing traffic and facing potential layoffs or even closures,” said Congressman Subramanyam. “The Keep Main Street Open Act will provide these small businesses with a lifeline during the shutdown and help prevent further damage to our community. Small businesses are a pillar of Northern Virginia and we need to rally behind them during this shutdown.”

Congressman Suhas Subramanyam is an advocate for small businesses and continues to consult small business owners throughout Northern Virginia during the government shutdown. Since the shutdown began, Congressman Subramanyam has introduced and supported several pieces of legislation to support impacted federal workers, contractors, businesses, and families, including:

  • The Shutdown Guidance for Financial Institutions Act: Provides and encourages best practices for banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions to work flexibly with people impacted by shutdowns.

  • The Emergency Relief for Federal Contractors Act: Allows federal contractors affected by a government shutdown to withdraw funds from their retirement savings without being penalized.

Congressman Suhas Subramanyam Fights to End Government Shutdown and Protect Health Care On The House Floor

October 31, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) took to the Floor of the House of Representatives in an attempt to end the shutdown by requesting passage of H.R. 247, the Health Care Affordability Act of 2025, that would permanently extend the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits that are set to expire December 31, 2025. Republicans refused to recognize Subramanyam as Speaker of the House Mike Johnson continues to not hold votes and end the government shutdown. Bipartisan support exists for extending the premium tax credits, and passage of H.R. 247 would likely have paved the way for the shutdown to end.

Subramanyam issued the following statement:

“Not only have House Republicans refused to show up and negotiate an end to this shutdown, they failed to recognize me when I demanded the passage of this commonsense legislation that would prevent health care costs from skyrocketing and pave the way for an end to this shutdown. House Republicans can try to ignore me, but they can’t ignore the American people, including federal workers and contractors in my district, who demand that we work to address this affordability crisis and reopen the government immediately.”

Around four million Americans could lose their health coverage if the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits are allowed to expire. Virginians enrolled in marketplace coverage could see their premiums double, and even people on private insurance will see their monthly payments spike. Congressman Subramanyam has repeatedly called on House Republicans to come back to Washington and vote on legislation that will ensure health care is within reach for Americans. Congressman Subramanyam is seeking a bipartisan budget agreement that reopens the government, protects the federal workforce, and defends access to affordable health care for millions of Americans.
