Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (D -VA) introduced this year’s latest (and not so greatest) toy: Tariff Bear. Although he is cute and cuddly, Tariff Bear costs three times the amount of a regular stuffed bear. Why? Because President Trump’s onslaught of tariffs has raised the prices of children’s toys across the country, even though he promised to lower costs.

As a father of two girls, Congressman Subramanyam understands the importance of family items and the pressure higher costs put on parents. The Congressman noted that these MAGA tariffs aren’t just raising costs on American families' favorite toys, but they are also raising the prices on other family products like shoes and clothes.

Congressman Subramanyam is fighting in Congress so that families across America won’t be stuck rationing toys to foot the cost of President Trump’s reckless tariffs.

Mr. Speaker, meet Tariff Bear. He's cute soft and cuddly and only triple the cost of a normal bear like him and he's here to show us how this administration's tariffs are raising costs on families’ favorite toys, clothes, and shoes because toys like him are becoming unaffordable to families. I recently got a letter from a concerned young Scout who is worried that the administration's tariffs will drive up the cost of his favorite toy Legos and as a dad this hits home for me. My girls are Lego Disney Princess fans. I've watched the movie about 10 times. And from Transformers to Lincoln Logs to Barbies, this administration is raising prices in our toy aisles with these tariffs. We keep hearing that this President is ushering in a golden age, but I think raising costs on families buying gifts or clothes or shoes for their children does not sound very golden to me. And so, to the young constituent who wrote to me, I will fight to lower costs for all Virginians and all Americans and to keep Tariff Bear where he belongs: in hibernation. I yield back.
