Rep. Subramanyam Moves to Rein in Trump’s Reckless Foreign Policy, Admin Officials’ Corruption
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10) introduced a slew of amendments to two government funding bills that would rein in President Trump’s reckless foreign policy initiatives and prevent funds from being used to enrich the President, his family, and cabinet members. The Republican majority refused to accept any of Rep. Subramanyam’s amendments.
“Instead of focusing on lowering inflation and making life more affordable, Trump has spent most of his presidency alienating our allies, hurting our global standing, and enriching himself and his billionaire friends,” said Rep. Subramanyam. “I can’t stand idly by while Trump makes unilateral decisions about our foreign policy, especially when it personally benefits him. Congress can and should rein in Trump and his administration.”
The following are the amendments Rep. Subramanyam attempted to tack on to the Financial Services and General Government and National Security and Department of State funding bills:
- An amendment to add Rep. Subramanyam’s COST of Relocations Act to the bill. This legislation would require a cost benefit analysis be completed before relocating federal offices and agencies out of the DC region.
- Amendments to prohibit funds from the bill from being used to benefit the personal finances of President Trump, the Trump Organization, or the personal business interests of the President, his Cabinet, or political appointees.
- Amendments prohibiting funds from being used to compensate people, including oil companies, for work related to building or rebuilding oil infrastructure in Venezuela.
- An amendment to prohibit funds from being used until USAID is reopened.
- Amendments to prohibit funds from being made available for infrastructure projects in Venezuela -- unless they are authorized by Congress and unless the nutrition cuts from H.R. 1 are repealed.
- An amendment to prohibit funds from being used for the purchase or annexation of Greenland (from the Kingdom of Denmark).
