Congressman Subramanyam Releases Statement Applauding Virginia Supreme Court Decision to Prevent Greenway Toll Hikes
Washington, D.C. — “Today’s ruling is a huge win for our community and families across Northern Virginia,” said Congressman Suhas Subramanyam. “It’s clear that the legislation I passed that prevented toll increases was not only constitutional but the best policy for Virginians facing high costs right now. Without this critical legislation and the SCC’s actions, these already exorbitant tolls would be almost double what they are today. I will continue to fight against tolls hikes and push to lower costs for my constituents in Congress.”
Background:
Today, the Virginia Supreme Court upheld the State Corporation Commission’s decision to not increase Greenway tolls. The SCC’s action was only made possible by legislation then-Delegate Suhas Subramanyam passed in 2021 that granted the SCC greater authority to prevent proposed toll hikes and price gouging. Congressman Subramanyam spoke against a proposed toll hike at a SCC hearing in 2024. When the SCC denied the toll increase, HB 1832 was cited as a reason for the denial.
